The Mark of the Beast system is a draconian system of governance that denies you access to goods and services because you do not have a mark, an identity. This system threatens your very survival as you are prohibited from transacting in businesses necessary for it.
It is instituted in a period of time immediately preceding the end of this world as we know it. The Bible calls this 7-year period The Tribulation.
It is during this time that an authoritarian figure called the Antichrist comes on the scene.
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 2 Thessalonians 2:3
The Antichrist shall make a covenant or an agreement with many.
And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week. Daniel 9:27a
His covenant is the fulfillment of the final segment of ‘sevens’, or the 70th seven, of a series of seventy ‘7-year periods’ prophesied in Daniel 9. It marks the beginning of the 7-year Tribulation.

Midway through the 7-year Tribulation, the Antichrist desecrates the temple.
And in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate. Daniel 9:27b

For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
